Ways to Get Involved

Your time and energy helps our students achieve their music goals. We welcome all forms of support, from time to donations. Your commitment can be as large or small as fits your needs. Have a few hours? Volunteer for a single program. Have a bit more time? Join the Boosters and help with events throughout the year. No time at all? Consider donating money or goods to help.

Your donations help the Orchestra to purchase musical instruments & to fund for sectional workshops, guest conductors, solo & Ensemble festival, scholarships for private lessons and many other expenses required to maintain our quality program.

WPHS Orchestra Boosters is a 501(c) tax exempt organization. Your donation is tax deductible.

Fundraising

The West Potomac Orchestra runs several fundraising events throughout the year that fund events, rehearsals, workshops, and trips. These include, but are not limited to:

Our Wolverine Shop

We sell fundraising items through our Wolverine Shop at all events and at select West Potomac activities, including football games. The items are available for purchase throughout the year and include blankets, key rings, and yard signs.

Restaurant Nights

Throughout the year, we schedule several restaurant nights where the orchestra receives a portion of the proceeds from those who purchase food as part of the fundraiser. It’s as easy as eating out for a cause.

Tag Day

Tag Day is a combined effort within the performing arts department. Students go door-to-door requesting donations from the community.  This happens on a Saturday in the fall and is the biggest single-day fundraiser for the orchestra. Please donate generously.

The Pie Sale

Each year, we sell Chef Pierre pies in time for Thanksgiving. The orchestra earns $5 per pie sold. The pies are delivered to the school where the students pick them up when they leave for the day and deliver them to neighbors and friends who participated.

Poinsettia Sale

The orchestra sells poinsettias the last two weeks in November and during the Nutcracker performances in early December.  Students sell the plants to family and neighbors and the Boosters handle delivery. Poinsettias are also available for purchase online prior to the Nutcracker performances.

Volunteer

There are many ways to volunteer to help the orchestra and its performers. Below are just some of the ways you can get involved:

  • Sign up for the Orchestra Boosters to receive regular emails about volunteer opportunities.

  • Attend Orchestra Booster meetings every second Tuesday of the month at 7pm in the orchestra room at the high school (Springbank Building, room 524).

  • Become a Patron.

  • Sign up for volunteer spots on SignUp Genius when those opportunities are posted.

  • Join fundraising efforts, like Tag Day and the Pie Sale.

  • Donate goods to orchestra events, such as food for rehearsals or giveaways.

  • Enjoy a meal out during orchestra fundraising nights at local restaurants. The orchestra receives a portion of the proceeds during those events.

  • Offer services or goods.

  • Ask how to help. There are many ways to support the kids and orchestra.

  • We have a few openings on the Orchestra Booster Board, if you’d like to help out. At present, we need someone for Hospitality, Social Media, and Concert Programs, as well as general members to train for other positions that will open at the end of the year.
